Drug Overdose Awareness Day
Every year on August 31 the world recognizes International Overdose Awareness Day – a campaign to end overdose, remember those who have died, and acknowledge the grief of the family and friends left behind.
Drug overdose deaths rose from 547 in 1999 to 23,837 in 2020 according to the Centers for Disease Control. It is impossible to calculate the tears that this figure produced. Stigma and the misinformation about substance use disorders still stands in the way of wellness and recovery. Substances like opiates, cause pervasive changes in the brain which disrupts rational thinking. Please learn more and judge less.
